Description
Aldehyde C10, commonly known as Decanal, is a classic aliphatic aldehyde with a powerful fresh citrus, orange-peel, waxy and slightly fatty character. It is one of the important building blocks of the traditional aldehydic palette and is valued for its ability to provide brightness, lift and diffusion. Reliable references describe its odor as citrus-like, floral-fatty and reminiscent of fresh orange peel.
In perfumery, Aldehyde C10 is primarily used as a high-impact top-note accent. It can make citrus compositions feel brighter and more radiant while adding a clean, sparkling quality to floral accords. It is especially useful in orange, bergamot, lemon, rose, jasmine, white-floral, aldehydic and fresh compositions. Its characteristic waxy-fresh facet can also contribute to classic soap and clean fragrance effects.
Aldehyde C10 is extremely powerful compared with many ordinary fragrance materials, so it should normally be evaluated from a dilution. Its impact can be very different at high concentration, where the waxy, fatty or harsh aldehydic aspects may become dominant. Used carefully, it provides the sparkle and lift that can make a fragrance feel more open and diffusive. Kao Chemicals lists it as an accent material across various fragrance types.

Perfumers' Tip
Aldehyde C10 is best used very sparingly. Prepare a 1% or lower working dilution and add it gradually while evaluating the complete accord. This helps avoid an overly harsh or waxy result.
For a radiant citrus opening, combine it with bergamot, orange, lemon and linalool. For a classic aldehydic floral effect, pair it with rose, jasmine, floral alcohols and other C9āC12 aldehydes.
