Description
Aldehyde C12 Lauric, also known as Dodecanal or Lauric Aldehyde, is a classic long-chain aliphatic aldehyde with a powerful waxy, citrus, fresh, soapy and floral character. It is one of the important materials in the aldehydic perfumery palette and is valued for its ability to provide brightness, diffusion and a clean, radiant effect.
In fragrance construction, Aldehyde C12 Lauric is particularly useful for creating classic aldehydic, citrus, floral, soapy and clean-laundry effects. Its orange-rind and citrus facets can brighten a composition, while its waxy and fatty character adds texture and naturalistic body. It is also useful in cologne, violet, pine and chypre-style compositions and is known for good substantivity in fabric-care applications.
This is a high-impact material, so it should normally be evaluated from a dilution rather than directly from the neat material. Aldehyde C12 Lauric can crystallize or become cloudy at cooler temperatures; this is a known physical characteristic of the material and does not necessarily indicate a quality problem.

Perfumers' Tip
Aldehyde C12 Lauric is best used from a low-percentage working dilution. It can give a fragrance an immediate sparkling, waxy and clean character, but excessive use can make an accord harsh or overly soapy.
For a classic aldehydic effect, combine it with Aldehyde C10 and C11, citrus oils and floral alcohols. For a softer modern clean effect, pair it with Hedione, benzyl salicylate and musks.
