Description

Civettone is a powerful macrocyclic musk with a distinctive warm, animalic and sensual character. It has a soft yet intense musk profile with fatty, slightly powdery and skin-like nuances. Its character is associated with traditional civet-like effects, but as a synthetic aroma chemical it provides perfumers with a consistent material for recreating animalic warmth and depth in fragrance compositions.

In perfumery, Civettone is mainly used as a powerful base-note material and modifier. It can add diffusion, sensuality and persistence to fine fragrances while giving floral compositions a more natural and rounded character. It is particularly valuable in rose, jasmine, musk, amber and animalic accords. Because of its strong odor impact, careful dosing is important; very small quantities can noticeably change the character of a composition.

Perfumers' Tip

Civettone is best used sparingly because its animalic character can quickly become dominant. Try it at trace levels beneath rose, jasmine or musk accords to add warmth, sensuality and a natural skin-like depth without making the animalic facet obvious.
