Description
Ocimene is a naturally occurring monoterpene hydrocarbon found in various essential oils and aromatic plants. It has a bright, fresh and distinctly green character with sweet, citrus, herbal and floral nuances. Its light, volatile nature makes it particularly useful for creating freshness and natural lift in fragrance compositions.
In perfumery, Ocimene is mainly used as a fresh green and floral modifier. It can add a lively, airy quality to citrus and floral accords while contributing a natural botanical character. It works particularly well in compositions based around lavender, geranium, basil, neroli, bergamot and other green or aromatic materials.
Ocimene can also help reproduce the fresh, slightly terpene-like quality found in natural essential oils. Its quick evaporation makes it most useful in the opening of a fragrance, where it can provide an immediate impression of freshness before transitioning into heart and base materials.

Perfumers' Tip
Ocimene is particularly useful for adding a bright, airy green freshness to the opening of a fragrance. Combine it with citrus materials for a sparkling top note, or pair it with Linalool, lavender and geranium for a fresh natural floral accord. Because it is highly volatile, evaluate it both immediately and after a short resting period to understand its contribution.
*CAS numbers can vary depending on the specific ocimene isomer or commercial grade.
