Description

Aldehyde C6, also known as Hexanal or Caproaldehyde, is a highly volatile aliphatic aldehyde with a characteristic fresh, green, grassy, leafy and slightly fatty odor. It is an important material for creating realistic natural-green effects and is particularly valued for its immediate freshness and diffusion. Kao Chemicals describes C6 as delivering a green, leafy nuance with remarkable freshness and strong diffusion.

In perfumery, Aldehyde C6 is primarily used as a green top-note accent. It can reproduce impressions of freshly cut grass, crushed green leaves and fresh plant stems, while also adding a subtle fruity or apple-like facet. This makes it useful in green, citrus, fruity, herbal and natural-style compositions.

The material is especially valuable when a fragrance feels too smooth, sweet or synthetic and needs a sharper natural green edge. Because of its high volatility and strong impact, it should be handled carefully and evaluated from a suitable dilution. Commercial fragrance guidance lists it as an accent material with a broad application range.

Perfumers' Tip

Aldehyde C6 is best used in very small quantities to create a convincing freshly cut-green effect. Start with a dilute solution and build gradually, as excessive use can make the composition sharply fatty or harsh.

For a realistic green accord, combine it with cis-3-Hexenol, cis-3-Hexenyl Acetate and citrus materials. For an apple or fresh-fruit effect, combine it with fruity esters and floral materials to soften its sharp green edge.
