Description

Ambrocenide is a highly powerful modern woody-amber aroma material known for its exceptionally dry, sharp and long-lasting character. Its odor profile combines intense woody, ambery, smoky and slightly animalic facets, with an agarwood or oud-like impression. Ambrocenide is a proprietary fragrance material associated with Symrise and is derived from alpha-cedrene obtained from cedar essential oil.

In perfumery, Ambrocenide is primarily used as a high-impact base-note modifier. It can dramatically increase the presence, dryness and persistence of woody and amber compositions while adding a modern, powerful character. It works particularly well in oud, dry woods, amber, smoky and masculine-style fragrance constructions.

Because of its exceptional strength, Ambrocenide should be handled carefully and evaluated from a dilute solution. Commercial fragrance materials are also available as 10% solutions, illustrating how concentrated forms may be approached in practical perfumery.

Perfumers' Tip

Ambrocenide is best treated as a super-powerful accent material. Start with a very dilute solution and add gradually; even trace quantities can noticeably increase the dryness, projection and woody-amber character of an accord.

For a modern oud effect, combine it with cypriol, patchouli, guaiacwood and labdanum. For a cleaner contemporary woody base, try it with Iso E Super, Ambroxan and other amber-woods.
