Description
Azarbre is a distinctive woody, honeyed and powdery aroma chemical with warm dried-floral, orris and chrysanthemum-stem nuances. It occupies an interesting space between dry woods, soft floral notes and ionone-like powdery effects. Its character is warm and slightly bittersweet, making it particularly useful when a fragrance needs more depth and connection between floral and woody materials.
In perfumery, Azarbre is valued as a bridging material. It can enhance ionones and help blend woody and floral components together, while its honeyed and dried-flower facets bring warmth and complexity to an accord. It is especially well suited to honey-sweet florals, iris, violet, woody florals and warm amber compositions. Givaudan's published description specifically highlights its usefulness with ionones and in honey-sweet floral constructions.
Azarbre is not simply a generic woody material; its unusual combination of honey, dry wood, powdery orris and phenolic-floral nuances makes it useful as a character modifier. It can give an otherwise straightforward floral or woody formula a more textured and sophisticated personality.

Perfumers' Tip
Azarbre is particularly useful when you need to bridge a powdery floral heart with a woody base. Start with a diluted solution and experiment around the low end of the range, especially when working with ionones.
For a sophisticated iris-honey effect, combine it with Alpha Ionone, Beta Ionone and orris materials. For greater warmth and depth, add sandalwood, patchouli or labdanum. Givaudan notes that Azarbre can enhance ionones around 2ā3% and blend woody and floral components at higher levels.
