Description
Cade Oil is a powerful natural fragrance material known for its distinctive smoky, woody, leathery and tar-like character. Traditionally associated with the juniper family, it is used in perfumery primarily as a strong character material to create smoke, leather and burnt-wood effects.
Its aroma features intense smoky, dry woody, phenolic, tar-like, leathery and slightly medicinal facets. The material can bring dramatic depth and a rugged natural character to a composition, particularly when used in dark or smoky fragrance styles.
Cade Oil is especially useful in leather, smoky, woody, oriental, chypre and incense-inspired fragrances. It can also contribute a campfire, charred-wood or burnt-leather impression when carefully dosed.

Perfumers' Tip
Cade Oil is best treated as a powerful smoky accent rather than a conventional base oil. Start at trace levels and build slowly until the desired smoky or leathery effect appears.
For a dark leather composition, try Cade Oil + Leather Accord + Labdanum + Patchouli + Cedarwood. For a smoky woody accord, combine it with Guaiacwood, Vetiver, Olibanum Oil and Cypriol.
Rose or Jasmine can provide an elegant contrast to its rugged character, while Saffron and Black Pepper can add a modern spicy dimension.
Cade Oil should be evaluated carefully in the finished formula, as its intense smoky and phenolic character can quickly dominate delicate materials.
