Description

Cervolide is a modern macrocyclic musk with a soft, elegant and highly tenacious character. Givaudan describes it as having a fine musk note that is slightly fruity with a woody background, while other perfumery references describe sweet, clean, powdery and subtly fruity facets. It is supplied as a colorless liquid and has a molecular formula of C₁₅H₂₈O₃.

In fragrance construction, Cervolide is valued for creating a smooth, clean and skin-like musk foundation. It can soften sharper ingredients, add roundness to floral compositions and provide a persistent musky aura without overwhelming the main character of a fragrance. Its fruity-woody character also makes it more versatile than a purely clean musk.

Cervolide works particularly well in white musk, floral, fruity, woody and modern skin-scent accords. It can extend the drydown of rose, jasmine and orange-flower materials while adding warmth and softness. Givaudan reports excellent tenacity on blotter, with the odor detectable for several months, making it a useful material for long-lasting fragrance structures.

Cervolide is excellent for creating a soft, elegant musk base with a subtle fruity-woody character. It can be used to round sharp floral or woody materials and give the finished fragrance a smoother drydown.

For a sophisticated white-musk accord, combine it with Habanolide, Ambrettolide and Helvetolide. For a floral skin-scent effect, pair it with Hedione, rose materials and soft woods. Its high tenacity makes it especially useful when you want the musk character to remain noticeable well into the drydown.
