Description

Gurjum Balsam Dark, also known as Gurjun Balsam, is a natural oleoresinous fragrance material obtained from the resin of Gurjun trees. It is valued in perfumery for its rich, warm and balsamic character.

Its odor profile combines woody, resinous, balsamic, smoky and slightly leathery facets, giving fragrance compositions warmth, depth and a natural resinous quality. It can create a smooth bridge between woody, amber and oriental materials.

Gurjun Balsam is particularly useful in woody, oriental, amber, incense and chypre-style compositions. Its warm resinous character can also add richness to natural-style perfume bases and help enhance the depth of heavier fragrance accords.

Perfumers' Tip

Gurjun Balsam is excellent for building a warm, resinous and deep woody base. Combine it with Guaiacwood, Cedarwood and Vetiver for a dry woody accord, or pair it with Labdanum and Benzoin for a rich amber-balsamic effect. Frankincense and Myrrh can emphasize its incense character, while Sandalwood can add creamy smoothness.
