Description
IPM, short for Isopropyl Myristate, is a lightweight ester widely used as a carrier, emollient and formulation ingredient in fragrance and personal-care products. It has a very mild odor and a smooth, non-greasy feel, making it useful when a formula requires good spreadability without adding a strong scent of its own.
In perfumery, IPM can be used as a carrier and diluent in perfume oils and other fragrance preparations. It can help distribute fragrance materials evenly and contribute to a smooth application on the skin.
Unlike aroma chemicals such as floral, woody or fruity materials, IPM is primarily a functional ingredient rather than a fragrance note. Its main value comes from its physical properties and compatibility with many oil-soluble ingredients.

Perfumers' Tip
IPM is particularly useful when you want a light, smooth carrier for oil-based fragrance formulations. It can help improve spreadability and reduce a heavy or greasy feel. Because it has very little odor of its own, it is useful when you want the fragrance composition to remain the main olfactory focus.
