Description

Methyl Dianthilis is a specialized perfumery material associated with the characteristic spicy-floral scent of carnation (Dianthus). It has a warm, spicy and slightly balsamic character reminiscent of clove, making it particularly valuable for recreating the complex fragrance of carnation flowers. Givaudan introduced Methyl Dianthilis as a spicy material of the eugenol type, and it is widely used in carnation reconstitutions.

In fragrance construction, Methyl Dianthilis is useful for adding spicy floral depth, warmth and character to carnation accords. It can also support rose, jasmine, ylang-ylang and oriental compositions, where its spicy facet creates contrast against soft floral and balsamic materials. Carnation accords commonly combine materials such as methyl ionone, benzyl salicylate, isoeugenol, heliotropin and vanillin to build a rounded spicy-floral effect.
