Description
Methyl Eugenol, also known as Eugenyl Methyl Ether or Eugenol Methyl Ether, is a warm, spicy aroma chemical with a characteristic clove and carnation character. Its odor profile combines sweet, fresh and warm spicy facets with nuances of cinnamon, herbal notes, pepper, earthy tones and a subtle musty character. It occurs naturally in a variety of essential oils, including clove, basil and other aromatic plants.
In perfumery, Methyl Eugenol is useful for creating carnation, clove, spicy floral and oriental accords. It can add warmth and aromatic depth to floral compositions and works particularly well alongside eugenolic, herbal, woody and balsamic materials. It can also be used as a modifier in lilac, ylang-ylang, lavender and oriental structures, where its spicy character helps give the composition greater complexity.

Perfumers' Tip
Methyl Eugenol is best used as a spicy floral modifier when a composition needs warmth and carnation-clove character. Pair it with Eugenol or Isoeugenol for a richer spicy accord, or use it with rose, ylang-ylang and other floral materials to create a warm oriental effect. Because it is a restricted material, always check current regulatory requirements before incorporating it into a finished product.
