Description
Para Cresol and Cresol-P Methyl Ether are high-impact phenolic aroma materials known for their strong smoky, medicinal, woody and spicy character. They are used primarily in very small quantities to add depth, realism and complexity to fragrance compositions.
Their phenolic profile can contribute smoky, tar-like, leathery, medicinal, woody and spicy nuances, making them particularly useful in dark and characterful fragrance accords.
These materials are especially valuable in leather, smoky, woody, phenolic, tobacco and oriental compositions. Because of their powerful odor, they are generally handled at trace levels and are best evaluated in dilution.

Perfumers' Tip
Para Cresol-type materials are best treated as accent materials rather than bulk ingredients. A trace amount can introduce a convincing smoky, leathery or phenolic nuance to an accord. Combine carefully with Guaiacwood, Vetiver and Patchouli for a dark woody effect, or use with Tobacco, Labdanum and vanilla materials for a richer smoky-amber character.
Important: The name provided combines two related but chemically distinct materials—p-cresol (4-methylphenol) and p-cresyl methyl ether (4-methylanisole). Their odor profiles and regulatory status are not identical, so the exact CAS number and supplier specification should be confirmed before creating a commercial product page.
