Description

Safraleine is a distinctive saffron-type aroma chemical with a powerful combination of spicy, leathery, woody and slightly metallic facets. Its character is often associated with the complex aroma of saffron, bringing a dry, warm and sophisticated quality to fragrance compositions. It can create an intriguing contrast between spicy warmth and cool, slightly metallic nuances.

In perfumery, Safraleine is particularly valuable for creating saffron, leather, woody, amber and oriental accords. It can give fragrances a modern and luxurious character while adding depth and individuality to the heart and base. Its powerful profile makes it especially useful in contemporary woody-leather compositions and dark spicy fragrances.

Safraleine can also be used to add complexity to floral or amber compositions. When combined with sweet, balsamic and woody materials, its dry spicy character can create an elegant contrast. Because it is highly characterful, careful evaluation at dilution is recommended before incorporating it into a finished fragrance.

Perfumers' Tip

Safraleine is best used as a powerful saffron-leather accent. Combine it with woody materials and Ambroxan for a modern woody-saffron effect, or pair it with labdanum, patchouli and leather materials for a darker oriental accord. Start with a low dilution and increase gradually, as its spicy-metallic character can become dominant quickly.
