Description

Sulfurol is a highly distinctive sulfur-containing aroma material with a powerful savory and sulfurous character. Its odor can be described through roasted, meaty, onion-like and slightly burnt facets, giving it a strong sensory identity. At very low concentrations, sulfur materials can add remarkable realism and complexity to certain natural and savory-style accords.

In perfumery, Sulfurol is primarily a specialty trace material rather than a conventional floral or woody ingredient. It can be useful in experimental perfumery and in compositions where a realistic sulfurous, savory or animalic nuance is required. Its character can also provide contrast in unusual naturalistic accords.

Because Sulfurol is extremely characterful, it should be handled carefully and evaluated at high dilution. A small amount can introduce a noticeable savory effect, while excessive use can quickly dominate the composition. For fragrance work, it is best treated as an accent material rather than a main body ingredient.

Perfumers' Tip

Sulfurol is best used as an extremely low-dose character material. Prepare a very dilute solution before evaluation and add it gradually to the formula. It can be useful for giving animalic or unusual naturalistic accords greater realism, but excessive dosage can quickly produce an overpowering sulfurous effect.
