Description
Thymol Crystals are a naturally occurring phenolic aroma material known for their distinctive strong herbal, spicy and thyme-like character. They are commonly obtained from thyme and other aromatic plants, although synthetic thymol is also widely available.
Thymol has a powerful odor profile combining thyme, herbal, spicy, phenolic, warm and slightly medicinal facets. Because of its strong character, it is generally used at relatively low concentrations in fragrance formulations.
In perfumery, thymol can contribute a natural aromatic and herbal character to herbal, aromatic, medicinal, spicy and fougère-style compositions. It is also an important functional ingredient in certain oral-care and personal-care applications.

Perfumers' Tip
Thymol is best used as a powerful herbal-spicy modifier rather than as a dominant fragrance ingredient. Pair it with Lavender, Rosemary and Sage for an aromatic herbal accord, or combine it with Eugenol and Clove Oil for a warmer spicy profile.
For a fresher composition, Bergamot, Lemon, Linalool and Dihydromyrcenol can help brighten its strong herbal character. A small amount can add considerable natural aromatic complexity.
Handling note: Thymol crystals are a concentrated phenolic material. Handle according to the supplier's SDS and use an appropriate dilution during formulation and evaluation. Always verify application-specific safety and regulatory limits before commercial use.
