Description
Vanillin, commonly supplied as Vanillin Crystals, is one of the most important and recognizable gourmand aroma chemicals in perfumery. It provides a rich and comforting sweet vanilla character with creamy, balsamic, powdery and slightly woody facets.
Vanillin is widely used to create and enhance vanilla accords, but its usefulness extends far beyond simple vanilla fragrances. It can add sweetness, warmth, roundness and depth to floral, fruity, amber, oriental and gourmand compositions.
Its strong and familiar character makes it a valuable building block for both classic and modern fragrance formulations. Even at relatively low concentrations, it can noticeably soften and sweeten a composition.

Perfumers' Tip
Vanillin is an excellent foundation for building a warm, creamy and sweet vanilla accord. Combine it with Ethyl Vanillin for greater intensity, or use Ethyl Maltol and Maltol to create caramelized, cotton-candy and gourmand effects. Benzoin and Labdanum add balsamic depth, while Sandalwood and Ambroxan can create a richer and more sophisticated base.
For fruity gourmands, combine Vanillin with Raspberry Ketone, lactones or berry materials to create creamy fruit and dessert-like effects.
Handling note: Vanillin is commonly supplied in crystalline form and may require suitable dilution or warming/solubilization depending on the formulation system. Always check solubility and stability before preparing a final product.
